For me this is very familiar science fiction. Deals with a boy growing up and discovering that he has powers. Other people become very interested in him and his foster mother. It's not great book but I really enjoy it.
A number of stories are told each interrupting the last. Sometimes literally in the middle of a sentence. It stars as historical and moves forward with each story until it becomes science fiction. Finally it unravels itself back to the beginning. Watch for the links between the stories.
How to set up a small scale software company. I found this an interesting read with lots of practical advice. It includes an number of interviews with people who've gone through or are going through this process.
Told as a series of diary entries and letters this gives it a very immediately feel. It may not have been quiet as good the 2nd time around but even so. For anyone who hasn't read the original I'd really recommend it.
Watched the animated film and wanted to see how the original went. Gigantic metal man comes to Earth and causes havoc by eating things. It short and simple. Pretty much for kids but I think they should it enjoy it.
I'd recommend it's prequel Hyperion. It has a series of stories told by the main characters about why they've come to the planet Hyperion. This book deals with the action once they're on the planet. It's a bit confused compared to the simple stories told in the first book.
Yet more dinosaurs to finish the trilogy. Now they've discovered psychiatry. There's a bit of a mystery going on too.
More dinosaurs slightly later on. This has more of a science fiction edge as it introduces an alien intelligence and talks a lot about evolution.
A book with no people, it's all about sentient dinosaurs. Covers a period in history where religion and science come into conflict. I like this because it explores the social impacts of a different sentient species.
A big book with several parts one of which is in Glasgow. It's a strange combination of fiction, fantasy, and science-fiction. I liked the parts set in Glasgow, they followed a boy becoming an artist. Some of the rest was all right but it got strange towards the end.
