A sequel to The Ropemaker this book continues the story 20 generations after the last one left off. It has a similar formula but doesn't manage to pull it off as well. The main character should have had a more active role but her companions ended up doing most of the work.
A boy goes to China with his father, a mister, who has settled in a rural village. He flees when rebels burn the village and kill his father. He then encounters a female botanist who wants to go to Tibet. Part of this is the boys conflicted religious views as he encounters a strange life in the wider world.
A girl wakes up from a coma in the body of a chimpanzee. She has been saved from a near fatal accident but is no longer the same person. How will the world react to an animal who is human? How will she live when so much of what she was is gone? Another enjoyable read from Dickinson.
The story of one small tribe running for their lives after stranges drive them from their land. They go beyond the world they knew and suffer through disasters. It is intercut with the origin myth of the tribe. I found this an involving story that was hard to put down.
