The Years of Rice and Salt, Kim Stanley Robinson

An alternate history book where early Europeans are wiped out by the plague. Reincarnation features and the story follows the same people through many lives. It was interesting to see different possible cultures coming out of the middle east, the orient, and the americas. While each piece was interesting all together they were too slow. It would have been better slimmed down by a couple of hundred pages.

Blue Mars, Kim Stanley Robinson

While the other books in the Mars Trilogy have some cool ideas it all seems to have finished by the time we get to this one. Everything big has already been done and this book just tries to tidy up a few loose ends. If you've made it through the other two I wouldn't bother with this one.

Mars Trilogy, Kim Stanley Robinson

A trilogy covering the colonisation and teraforming of Mars in an unstable political climate. A huge collection with each book over the 700 page mark but worth it for the ideas.
