The Iron Giant

This is a very enjoyable children's movie and, of course, it's got a giant robot! A very nice tale of a robot coming to Earth, losing his memory, and being befriended by a small boy. You probably already know the rest of the story. Enjoy the characters and the endless task of hiding a 50 foot tall robot in small town USA.

Salsa

As you wander down the steps to this basement restaurant it feels quiet. It seems that not too many people have discovered this place because of its south side location. There are all the dishes you'd expect of a Mexican restaurant and everything I've had has been nice. I was disappointed once upon arriving to find the restaurant was closing, this was 10 o'clock on Friday evening, perhaps something was wrong that night.

Khublai Khan

If you are looking for a different dining experience this might be it. Choosing from their large selection of meat, vegetables, and spices is fun. You can choose to make your dish exactly as spicy or mild as you want. Unless you go crazy it should be tasty. Go back as often as you want to fill up. If you are a non-strict vegetarian they have a good dozen vegetables to choose from and tofu. You should be able to make yourself something just as tasty as the meat eaters. If you are a strict vegetarian then you will hate this place. They do not have separate cooking areas and cannot stop cross contamination.

Wagamama

Wagamama set up along similar lines as Ichiban Noodle Cafe but it offers a different choice of dishes. It has similar noodle and rice dishes to Ichiban but while it offers healthy smoothies and unhealthy deserts it lacks any sushi. However my enjoyment of Wagamama has been variable. Sometimes their food just isn't up to standard and it all seems to depend on what you order. The fish cakes are good as are any of the deserts.

Pancho Villas

They have a great vegetarian selection here and, even as a meat eater, I almost always choose something from it. What drew me back here after my first visit were the nachos. A huge plateful covered in cheese, sour cream, refried bean, sprinkled with jalapenos and it all only cost a few quid. Recently they've been just as tasty but, unfortunately, not as generous. This pleasant brightly coloured restaurant is worth a visit.

Republic Bier Halle

While beer doesn't interest me pizza does and they have a two for one offer running Sunday to Thursday on most pizzas. The pizzas are very thin with good, although lightly scattered, toppings. They have a variety of other main dishes and sandwiches. I've tried their vegetarian goulash with baked potato and red cabbage and it's very tasty. It can get very busy in here so perhaps avoid it on Friday and Saturday nights.

Peking Inn

Still looking for a great Chinese restaurant in Glasgow but this one is good enough. Always seems to be busy when I go in so its probably a good idea to book. It will serve half-sized portions of all main dishes if you want to experiment a bit.

Monster Mash

Sausage and mash might be ordinary but can be a very tasty dish. They add variety by offering a choice of different sausages, mash, and gravy. It was good food but the enormous portions I'd heard about didn't appear. Pudding could have been classic but instead was boring. While this restaurant has a great idea it felt poorly executed.

Ichiban Noodle Cafe

I've been visiting Ichiban for years. It's a great place with a calm atmosphere and I can personally recommend (almost) all their noodle and starter dishes. My only problem ever were soba (buckwheat) noodles, which it turns out I don't like. They have a very good lunch time deal with two dishes for £6 and they also run a carry out service with a discount from the main menu. My favourite meal, which I try not to have every time, is agedashi tofu (deep-fried soya bean cured in dashi sauce) along with yasai curry men (vegetables in tempura batter with noodles and curry sauce).

Danger Mouse

Memories of Danger Mouse go all the way back to my early childhood. Penfold, the cowardly assistant, was great and their flying car could even be controlled by remote. Episodes sometimes got very bizarre and they once flew off the edge of the film. Looking back on it as an adult the series doesn't seem quiet so rosy but it's still worth watching occasionally. I do love the way the narrator, who starts and finishes each episode, interacts with the plot and occasionally leaves in a huff.
