Mother India's Cafe

Rather than concentrate on big main courses the menu offers you a wide selection of smaller dishes costing about £4 each. Poppadoms to start and couple of these with rice or bread made for a lovely dinner. Go with a group of people and you get to try even more dishes. The butter chicken was wonderfully rich, the chicken saag was lovely and spicy, the lamb was beautifully cooked, lentil dishes were very tasty. I was definitely impressed by this restaurant, my only quibble is that they don't serve naan. (There were at least some vegetarian choices but I wasn't paying enough attention to rate it.)

Ichiban Noodle Cafe

I've been visiting Ichiban for years. It's a great place with a calm atmosphere and I can personally recommend (almost) all their noodle and starter dishes. My only problem ever were soba (buckwheat) noodles, which it turns out I don't like. They have a very good lunch time deal with two dishes for £6 and they also run a carry out service with a discount from the main menu. My favourite meal, which I try not to have every time, is agedashi tofu (deep-fried soya bean cured in dashi sauce) along with yasai curry men (vegetables in tempura batter with noodles and curry sauce).
