The Ragwitch, Garth Nix

I was disappointed in this after reading other of Nix's work. It didn't have any clever new ideas. I didn't end up identifying with any of the characters. There fight against the Ragwitch proceeded uncomfortably easily. For the right age group the Ragwitch probably makes and "good" bad guy.

Across The Wall, Garth Nix

A reasonable collection of fantasy short stories. It only has one from the universe of the wall.

Mister Monday, Garth Nix

Start of The Keys to the Kingdom series. The House is the centre of all things. It's Architect left ten thousand years ago and her will was never executed. When Arthur is chosen as the heir he is dragged into a series of dangerous situations. Each of the current trusties is controls, and is named, for a day of the week. Monday controls the Lower House and is very lazy. There isn't anything very deep here but the books are exremely readable.

Abhorsen, Garth Nix

Completing the trilogy started with Sabriel. It brought together characters from the first and second books but didn't have anything new. Not bad just not as good as the first two.

Lirael, Garth Nix

2nd in a fantasy trilogy. There's a lot more interesting stuff going on here. A few ideas I want to steal. It's set one generation after the previous book and deals with a new set of characters and a new enemy. Well worth reading.

Sabriel, Garth Nix

Start of a teenager's fantasy trilogy. This is a really interesting, well thought out world. There's a new twist on magic and a way of looking at death that I've never seen before. The main character is a female teenage necromancer... but a nice one. Check it out.
