The people, the history, and the theories that helped form quantum mechanics. Science is a lot more difficult that coming up with a good idea. Although interesting this book has a lot of information and is a bit dry.

How the Dead Live, Will Self

Follows the story of a woman at the end of and after her life. It indeed describes "how the dead live". I bought this after listening to a reading by the author in a bookshop. It seemed to be a good read the first time round but this time it didn't catch me at all.

Mostly Harmless, Douglas Adams

Adam's final installment to the extended Hitchhiker's trilogy. It has familiar characters but it's been brought up to date new science fiction ideas. This doesn't work for me as the original series belongs to my childhood. I still enjoy the originals and they don't need to be brought up to date.

Crisis on Doona, Anne McCaffrey & Jody Lynn Nye

Not one of her better series. Lots of running about with human and felinoid people.

Treaty Planet, Anne McCaffrey & Jody Lynn Nye

Not one of her better series. Some big bear things come along and join the existing human and felinoid population.

Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Sea, Jules Verne

Verne has something here but it seem buried in the minuta of where the Nautilus is going and exactly what species of fish they're looking at, or going to eat next. It comes across now as strangely inaccurate, you can't sail a submarine to the South Pole, but that's because it was ahead of it's time.

Forever Peace, Joe Haldeman

A story of soldierboy warfare where a jack in the operators head controls the combat robot hundreds of miles away. I was disappointed in this compared to the Forver War. It's not bad but it doesn't have much to say either.

Riddled with Life, Marlene Zuk

An exploration of how parasites affect life on Earth. Some evolution develops at a sedate pace but against parasites, and disease, each organism must race to counter the latest inovations of the other side. It looks at why some diseases cause debilitating illness or death while others are not even noticed.

To Say Nothing of the Dog, Connie Willis

During a time travel project to restore Coventry Cathedral a time-lagged historian hides in victorian England but must desperately try to fix historical incogruities that have been created. I like time travel tales, this one spent a bit too much time on local colour.

The Bridge, Iain Banks

A man without memory on an endless bridge is only one of the stories. It was good to remind myself how this book went. Each section has it's appeal. It's not one his I'm going to hang on to though.
