The Midwich Cuckoos, John WyndhamThis book disappointed me. I'd enjoyed listening to The Day of the Triffids but this didn't capture at all. The children are born in mysterious circumstances, they have strange powers, but, for me, it didn't add up. It'll be interesting to see what I think of the audio edition I got hold of recently.

The Best Software Writing I, Joel SpolskyA collection of essays by various authors selected an introduced by Spolsky. There are some good and bad pieces here. The first easy tickled my fancy. It suggested stopping language style wars. You know the thing: tabs or spaces, braces on the same line or the next, how to capitalize your variables. The solution was for the language's designers to pick a style and encode it into the compiler. Anything that didn't fit the standard would be rejected. It might be harsh but is any style really that much better than any other?
Dream Country, Neil GaimanThe third of The Sandman Library is a collection of stories, most of which feature Dream.
A Game of You, Neil GaimanThe fifth of The Sandman Library is a story of one of the dream realms.
Season of Mists, Neil GaimanThe fourth of The Sandman Library this story sees Dream repairing damage done during his imprisonment. I'm particularly fond of the tale of Hob.
